Maple Syrup Sunday

This is a state wide event. The Cornish area, which includes the towns of Cornish, Parsonsfield, Limrick, Porter, South Hiram, and West Baldwin, features over 4 sugar houses. Depending on the sap production will determine how many maple houses will be producing.

The CAB member that has a full production sugar house is High Acres Maple Syrup. You can find locally produced Maple sugar at several of CAB member shops.

Sacopee Valley Health Center is holding an Open House. Visitors can tour our new facility at 49 Summer Street which was made possible by a grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Facility Investment Program (FIP).

Executive Director Maryagnes Gillman noted that the event is a great way to not only showcase our new structure but also a perfect way to introduce our newest program, "Healthy Roots: Living Well in Sacopee Valley." The program is funded by a Maine Health Access Foundation "Getting Down to Basics" grant which focuses on basic tools and resources that people need to be healthier and get better value from the health care system. Working with community partners, SVHC will create opportunities for families and older adults to learn about and participate in nutrition, cooking and grocery shopping sessions; explore and participate in physical activity, learn about and participate in stress management activities and learn more about various health resources that are available in the community. Additionally, 2011 is the

Health Center's 35th Anniversary! Since 1976 Sacopee Valley Health Center has been providing services to our communities. STANLEY CUP TO MAKE APPEARANCE IN CORNISH MAINE

The Stanley Cup, the NHL 's legendary trophy, will be making a stop at Krista's Restaurant in Cornish on September 28th.

As a part of Cup tradition, Stanley Cup winning team members and officials are awarded a day with the iconic trophy. When regular customer, friend, and Vice President of Finance for the Boston Bruins Jim Bednarek told Lair that he and his wife Susan wanted to host the cup in Cornish, specifically at her restaurant, she could not resist.

Krista's will be hosting a private dinner for Bednarek and the Cup that evening. Krista's will also be hosting an outdoor celebration and barbecue from 5:30 to 9:30 for everyone who wants to come and see the Cup, which will be marched through the crowd on a couple of occasions. Sebago Brewing Company will be hosting the beer garden. Finally, fulfilling both her and Bednarek's desire to use the occasion to do some good,

Fryeburg Fair

It was a chilly day in March of 1851 when a few local farmers and merchants got together and decided to show off their produce, cattle and wares to the community. Since those humble beginnings, Fryeburg Fair has grown to become Maine's largest agricultural fair complete with six days of harness racing, a farm museum second to none, the world's largest steer and oxen show and a reputation known throughout North America.

This event allows people to "buy" a tree light in memory of a loved one or simply to recognize an individual's accomplishments. A list of honored names is placed at the Thompson Park kiosk and an ad is ran in the Shopping Guide.

This event features:

Saturday: Local Shops offering special discounts and goodies Free horse drawn carriage/sleigh rides Choir singing in the park

The Christmas In Cornish is a fundraising event for the Cornish Association of Businesses (CAB), a non-profit organization of Cornish and neighboring towns business owners who volunteer their time to promote general business and community welfare in Cornish.

Carolyn Lawson, member of the Auxiliary To Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and Third Maine Regiment Re-enactors, will be presenting and displaying period women clothing and accessories of the Civil war era. Guest will be served Victorian style tea accompanied with freshly backed treats.
